Where Should I Live In North York?


North York with its population of over 650,00 is a culturally diverse metropolis of Ontario. People from all over the world have settled in North York including the Chinese, Filipinos, Arabs, Jews, Latin Americans and Asians of all origins.

With North York being such a mixed quilt work of different cultures it can be difficult to decide which part of the metropolis to live in, but here are a few suggestions.

If you are young, a student or just like that kind of lifestyle, then York University Heights, around York University is one of the best areas for you. This some of the coolest new North York Condos can be found on Yonge and Sheppard.

The best area for young professionals is the trendy area in North York known as Willowdale again on Yonge and Sheppard. There are great shopping areas, restaurants, movie theatres, a café culture and numerous subways.

Families may be more comfortable in one of the many surburbia neighbourhoods in North York. The high end areas are York Mills, Dublin Heights and Bayview. Middle income areas are Victoria Park Village, Emery and Don Mills. Blue collar areas are Don Valley Village, Yorkdale and Jane and Finch.


Dublin Heights for example is a mostly Jewish area with many synagogues dotted amongst the parks, playgrounds and shopping centres. The major shopping center of Yorkdale is just due south.

Victoria Park Village is a quiet neighbourhood between Lawrence and Eglinton and adjacent to the conservation area of East Don River Valley.

Don Valley Village straddles the Don Valley and Highway 404. It is home to many new home to the large Fairview Mall which includes a large multiplex.

Yonge Street, the longest street in the world, is the home to the Central Business District. There are numerous skyscrapers that are home to many well known international companies. The Civic Centre is home to Mel Lastman Square, The Toronto Centre for the Arts and numerous movie theatres.

West of Yonge Street is Earl Bales Park, which straddles the West Don River. Within the park is an outdoor amphitheatre and ski slope.


The Ontario Science Centre ,with its stunning views over Ernest Seton Park exhibits many hands-on science and technology items.

Sunnybrook Park is the major recreational park of North York and is the home of the Metro Police Riding Stables. In Edwards Gardens you will find the Toronto Botanical Gardens.
